Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a simple, natural and safe Japanese technique that balances the body’s own energy to promote healing, help reduce stress and aid in pain relief. Reiki is a non-invasive, gentle, hands-touch healing system.
The concept of Reiki is to provide natural healing energy the body needs to combat stress and blockages that cause physical and mental pain and diseases.
This peaceful, mind/body, holistic modality (Complimentary Alternative Medicine – CAM) complements all other medical or therapeutic techniques. Reiki can help accelerate natural healing and stimulate the immune system to promote recovery from illness, injury and reduce the side effects of medical treatments.
Reiki energy can be of help to people and animals for body, mind and spirit well-being.
The medical community has embraced the practice of Reiki on different levels. Many nurses have learned how to use Reiki to promote healing and help patients through surgery or a difficult recovery.
Hospitals have seen the value of Reiki to promote recovery. Reiki has been added as a complementary service to patients to help accelerate natural healing, stimulate the immune system, and promote overall mind and spirit well-being.
It is important to note that Reiki is not medicine and should never be substituted for seeking professional medical advice for injuries or, physical or mental illness.
How Reiki works
Reiki energy is passed through the Reiki practitioner to the recipient in a very simple manner with a very light hand-touch or by the practitioner holding their hands a few inches away from the recipient’s body. Physical contact is not necessary.
Positive energy flows through the Reiki practitioner but, is not created or stored by the practitioner. The goal of the Reiki practitioner is to transmit good, positive energy to the client.
Once the energy moves through the practitioner to the client the client’s body does the work. Energy flows to where it is needed in the body and is not controlled in any way by the practitioner or the client.
What to expect from a Reiki treatment
The recipient should come to the Reiki session with an open mind, without expectations or judgments. The recipient can simply relax, meditate or sleep through the session. It is not unusual for a client to doze off while receiving Reiki. Talking is fine as long as it is not for idle chatter. It is best to just let the energy quietly flow. Negative energy is not part of the quotient and no harm can be done with Reiki.
The most common result of a Reiki session is extreme relaxation with a very peaceful and balanced feeling.
Crystals and Reiki
Rosalind offers the use of crystals during your Reiki session. Because crystals are one of the oldest forms of healing, and have always been used for protection, they fit perfectly with Reiki. Crystals hold energetic properties that can enhance and complement the energy of Reiki. There are crystals that are optimal for clearing the Chakras for example (to see the section about Chakras click here). Crystals can be used to work toward specific goals. A short list of examples would be: bringing more balance to the energy of the mind/body opening to creativity, to release fear, to increase focus or to bring an overactive mind back in alignment.
There is scientific evidence that stones hold energetic properties. Examples of the radio, watch and computer demonstrate the ability of certain crystals to act as resonators and transducers of electromagnetic energies. If there are specific intentions you are working on, Rosalind can work with you to find crystals that are a good fit for your objective to use during your meditation or to carry with you. The more intimate you become with your own crystal(s) the more likely you will “program” it to bring the desired results. The combination of what she has learned from classes, books, personal experience and intuition are what Rosalind uses to recommend stones. It is then up to the client to decide on which stones resonate with their own heart and use them daily.
Whether or not you choose to incorporate crystals into your Reiki session and lifestyle, the most important element is the intent of the client and the practitioner in order to receive the highest benefits.
Who should have a Reiki session
Every one can benefit from Reiki.
At the present time many people are going through a great deal of stress. Stress can be a major factor contributing to illness and pain. Illness or pain can also create the stress. This can lead to a repeating cycle of stress-illness-stress-illness and so on. Often people have stress or an emotional blockage they have been holding on to for a long time that is responsible for a blocked energy center. Multiple Reiki sessions can help remove both the physical and the emotional blockages.
Since Reiki works on multiple levels of the mind-body connection it can be an invaluable tool for anyone experiencing stress in their personal or professional life. Reiki can help relax those suffering and experiencing mental pressure and anxiety that some life situations bring. Reiki can be very beneficial to those under stress due to illness, surgery or injury.
Stress creating blockages can result in the body holding onto toxins that can cause disease and illness. As Reiki energy moves through the body toxins that have been stored in the body’s muscles, organs and tissues can be released into the bloodstream and removed from the body through the kidneys and liver. Toxins in the body are the result of exposure to chemicals, foods, medications, alcohol and the environment over the
course of time.
A person who is going through a medical or mental problem can find a Reiki session to have a calming effect on their body, mind and spirit. People or pets that have a chronic condition can have their discomfort eased with regular Reiki sessions. This helps to promote physical and mental well being to accelerate healing.
Some examples of the conditions Reiki sessions have been used for are ADHD, ADD, Depression, Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, Mesothelioma, Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke and
stress or anxiety.
However, even someone in perfect health can find Reiki beneficial because it helps to de-stress the body and mind, enhance energy flow and helps keep the immune system in good working order. Reiki energy can help avoid blockages within the system caused by stress.
It is always a good idea to drink water, get plenty of quality rest, and eat light and healthy foods. But, a healthy lifestyle is especially helpful with Reiki sessions. It will help cleanse and promote healing of the body. Respect shown to one’s own body will also help support and strengthen the mental benefits of Reiki.
There is no such thing a too much Reiki.
Reiki and pregnancy
Reiki is a very gentle relaxation technique that can be of great benefit to pregnant women. Reiki does no harm. As a very peaceful, restorative modality Reiki energy can have a very calming effect on both Mother and child.
Reiki for pets and animals
Many animals welcome Reiki. Ill or injured pets can benefit from the Reiki energy in the same way that people do. However, a healthy animal may not be interested at all. They might just walk away if they do not need the extra energy.
Animals are very much in-tune with the physical and energetic environment of the earth. They are much more sensitive to what is around them and react much more quickly than humans do to the earth’s energy, weather, other animals and sounds.
Sometimes an animal will seek the direct hand-on contact, at other times the animal may prefer to receive Reiki from a distance. A distance of just a few inches away to many feet from the body can be directed by a practitioner who has been attuned to the second degree (level 2) and higher (Master).
Reiki and religion
Reiki is not a religion, doctrine or dogma. Compassionate action and intent are what Reiki has in common with many religions. Reiki can be felt as a spiritual experience. It does not require the practitioner or the recipient to adhere to any particular religion, belief system or doctrine.
The best way to understand the benefits of Reiki is to try it!
